Previous: The Christian's Promised Land

Over the next few weeks, there will be lots of buying and selling. Shoppers will flock to the stores and Internet sites to spend millions of dollars on gifts for those they care about, and some they do not care so much about. According to a Gallop Poll, Americans predict spending $885 on gifts this holiday season. The poll further finds:
The $885 spending mean reflects the finding that 33% of Americans plan to spend at least $1,000 on Christmas gifts, 22% say they will spend between $500 and $999, 29% will spend between $100 and $499, and 3% will spend less than $100.
That amounts to a total of $720.89 billion dollars (Investopedia). That is a lot of money, but, eMarketer predicts, " retail sales in the United States will increase 5.8 percent to $1.002 trillion this holiday season!"
I could not find any predictions for charitable spending for this holiday season. I wonder how that will compare with the spending for non-charitable gifts?
In this article, we will consider something far more important than material gifts.

The Wise Man's Advice

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, provides some spending advice in Proverbs 23:23. He writes, "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding." Now, these are four things that seem to be in short supply these days! But, Solomon advises his readers to buy all four and sell them not. That is, get as much of them as you can and hold on to them!
