Verse of the Day
Due to the Coronavirus, the Strasburg church of Christ will not conduct services until further notice. We did not want to do this, but, to keep everyone safe from the virus, we made this decision. We want everyone to be alive and well to continue worshipping and serving God in the future. You may listen to the services of the Front Royal Church of Christ here
BRIGHTEN THE CORNER WHERE YOU ARE
May 10, 2020
Previous: Fear Not
Most of us are familiar with the song written by Ina D. Ogden, "Brighten the Corner Where You Are," made famous in a recording by Ella Fitzgerald and recorded by numerous other artists. Michael Lining's acapella version is featured on this page.
Not only is it a beautiful song with timely lyrics, "brighten the corner where you are" is a Biblical concept, perhaps especially during these trying times dominated by Covid-19.
Let Your Light Shine
Jesus said in Luke 8:15:
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
Matthew includes Jesus' words: Matt 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." How do you let your light shine? Jesus says it is by letting others see your good works and glorifying the Father. Not to glorify yourself, for the Lord condemns that idea in Matthew 6:1: "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven."
