VERSE OF THE DAY Last week: The Bible - A Blood-stained Book For A Sin-stined People, Part 1. THE BIBLE - A BLOOD-STAINED BOOK FOR A SIN-STAINED PEOPLE, Part 2June 14, 2014
John writes in Revelation 1:5-6, "Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." But, how, and when did Jesus wash us from our sins in His blood? Blood is used explicitly throughout the Bible 447 times in 375 verses. It is also used implicitly many times in scripture. In Part 1 we studied the prominence of blood throughout the Bible. We learned that the blood of animals sacrificed by the Levitical priests could never take away sins, but were types of the true blood - the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross. In the second part, I want us to study how one can obtain the benefits of the blood of Jesus Christ. Ananias said to Saul in Acts 22:16, "And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." Later, Saul, who had come to be known as Paul (See Acts 13:9), would write, "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:3-4), Notice that Paul says that, when one is baptized, he is baptized into the death of Christ. It was in Jesus' death that He shed His blood! Now notice - John said we are washed in the blood of Jesus. Ananias told Saul to be baptized and wash away his sins. Paul writes that, when we are baptized, we are baptized into the death of Jesus. Jesus shed his blood in His death. So, when do we receive the benefits of Jesus' blood? Think about that a moment. Paul told the Elders of the Ephesian church in Acts 20:28, Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Luke writes in Acts 2:47 that the early Christians were "Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." So, the Lord adds the saved to the church, which Jesus purchased with His blood, which He shed in His death, into which we are baptized, and in baptism our sins are washed away, and by which we are saved (1 Peter 3:21). So, when and how, do we receive the benefits of Jesus' blood? The only logical and Biblical answer is when we are baptized into Christ! Have you been baptized into Christ? Follow@ljbost |
